BANKERS INSTITUTE OF THE PHILIPPINES (BAIPHIL)
President’s Report
Lydia C. King, President, FY 2008 – 2009
Fellow BAIPhil Members, Friends, Ladies and Gentlemen:
Tonight, we come together to celebrate a year of achievements. The year that just ended was truly challenging yet we at BAIPhil managed to have twelve fruitful months together – proof that this organization does not just have great minds, but big hearts as well.
Thanks to your dedication and selfless commitment, BAIPhil succeeded not just in providing continued training to Filipino bankers, but also in developing the industry’s human capital resources.
With the training center of the BAIPhil Training Institute (BTI) now open, we came closer to our dream of establishing a broad-based center of learning for those in the practice of banking. We had training sessions across the country, in the process laying the foundation for a more robust, more solid Philippine banking industry. Our trainings focused on good corporate governance, as well as new developments that have a significant impact on our day to day tasks as bankers. Educational programs contributed a total net income of P1.663 million or an achievement rate of 166%, the highest ever in the history of BAIPhil.
Our monthly newsletter - the BAIPHIL Online, the daily Morning Brief on current events affecting the financial markets and the BAIPhil Website are dynamic platforms allowing the exchange of information and knowledge within the industry. These were enhanced further by the topics discussed by well chosen speakers during our monthly membership meetings, the BAIPhil Journal and various press releases and newspaper supplements on BAIPhil activities.
Hand in hand with this, we continued to share research and information with the Bangko Sentral, and provide timely alerts on legal and tax legislations that could affect banking and finance.
We successfully marketed the Real Property Database System, a joint venture with the BAP Credit Bureau – to help banks in credit evaluation and handling the sale of ROPOAs. We continue to beef up the RPDS.
We also had a most successful 25th National Convention this year held during our BAIPhil Week which posted an excess income of P1.1 million, the highest income ever generated by the National Convention. Our total revenues reached P2.8 million, with 34 sponsors and exhibitors pitching in for P2.143 million worth of sponsorships – the highest in BAIPhil's history. This is proof that BAIPhil continues to earn the trust and confidence of the banking sector.
This, of course, coincided with exciting activities to mark the BAIPhil Week. We had free seminars on personal finance management, work attitude and values enrichment, as well as an ArtSparks event made possible by our generous donors. Despite the hard work we did, we always remembered to have fun – whether through our Christmas party “Mamma Mia” or our badminton sportsfest, instilling a sense of camaraderie among us. We even had our very own BAIPhil Hymn, composed by Atty. Viray and Francis Puzon, which we launched during our National Convention.
Today, BAIPHIL is ever stronger. This year, we added Malayan Bank to our roster of institutional members and welcomed 17 associate members to our fold. Our continuous networking with trade officers also helped us recruit international bank officers to BAIPhil.
Thanks to all of you, we managed to raise funds through our “Silent Auction” to reach out to where we are most needed. We gave a scholarship fund for 3 high school students of Tahanan ng Panginoong Ministry, relief fund for victims of Typhoon Frank coursed through Caritas Manila. We also had a medical-dental mission in Bayambang, Pangasinan in partnership with SM Foundation, the Pangasinan Governor's Office and local officials, in which we served 587 patients.
We go into the future aware of the many challenges but equipped with the minds and hearts to achieve our objectives. I am grateful for your unfailing support and generosity that made my stint as BAIPhil president truly memorable and fulfilling. I know that as an institution, you will continue to support your new board in achieving our lofty goals for our organization.
Tonight, we mark our Grand Fellowship Night to pay tribute to the great men and women for the roles they played in bringing BAIPhil to where it is today. The Academy Awards popularly known as the Oscars is an association that recognizes excellence of professionals in the film industry. The red carpet Oscars is a much awaited event in Hollywood to culminate a year of excellence in film making, which also fits to our Grand Fellowship Night as we recognize exemplary if not outstanding performances of BAIPhil officers and members, and at the same time foster camaraderie and forge synergy among the general membership.
As we mark the culmination of this fiscal year at BAIPhil, we give utmost importance and recognition to our officers, members and guests walking down the red carpet in their most elegant and glamorous fashion.Tonight, we salute our officers and members for their greatest performance at BAIPhil. To the best actors and actresses of this BAIPhil season, congratulations to all of your for coming out with superb performances!
